Our History

The Federal University Birnin-Kebbi (FUBK) was established on 18th February, 2013 alongside those of Gusau and Gashua by the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the leadership of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, in line with policy of the Government for establishing a Federal University in states that did not have one across the federation.

Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis, FNSMB, a Professor of Biochemistry and former Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto was appointed as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University while Ibrahim Abubakar Mungadi, FCAI, was appointed as the Registrar.

Academic activities began in November, 2014 for the 2014/2015 academic session with a students’ population of 507 and academic staff strength of 102. Accordingly, maiden and second matriculation took place on 5th March, 2015 and 9th February, 2016 with a total of 507 and 972 Undergraduate sworn-in, respectively.

The University currently has three faculties and a College of Health Sciences and offer a total of twenty four (24) degree programmes.

Admission Requirements To Study In Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK).

The following are the general requirements to study in FUBK.

General Requirement

Bsc. Applied Geophysics (UTME)

The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry to form the core subjects with credit in any other one relevant science subject, at the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent. In addition, an acceptable pass in the University Matriculation Exams (UTME) is required.

Direct Entry(a) Candidates with at least two A’s at level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in one or more relevant subjects (Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics) may apply through JAMB Direct Entry (DE) and undertake three – year degree programme from 200-level. The candidate may be required to bridge courses at 100-level.(b) Candidates with OND/HND in relevant fields with a minimum of Lower Credit from recognized and accredited institutions along with the required credit passes at SSCE or its equivalent may equally apply through JAMB DE to undertake a three-year programme at 200-level.

Bsc. Biology (UTME)

The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, to form the core subjects with credit in three other relevant science subjects Biology, Chemistry, Technical drawing, Agricultural Science and Geography at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent and atleast a pass in Physics. In addition, an acceptable pass in the University Matriculation Examination (UME) into 100-level is required. For the B.Sc. Programme in Biological Sciences, candidates must have credit level passes in Biology, Chemistry and at least a pass in Physics.

Direct EntryExpected duration for Direct Entry (DE) candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in one or more relevant subjects (Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics) may undertake the three – year degree programme into 200-level.Students are required to complete a minimum of 120 units for Graduation, 60 of which must come from the relevant option areas in Biological sciences.

Bsc. Biochemistry (UTME)To be admitted into the 4 year B.Sc. Biochemistry programme, the candidate must possess credit passes in 5 WASCE/GCE/NECO Subjects in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

Direct EntryTo be admitted into 3years B.Sc. Biochemistry Programme, the candidate must possess: ‘A’ Level passes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics ND/HND in relevant fields such as Diploma in Nutrition/Nutrition and Dietetics, Science Laboratory Technology and Food Science and Technology with a minimum of Lower Credit plus 5 credits in WASCE/NECO/GCE.

Bsc. Computer Science (UTME)A student who wishes to be admitted into Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science must fulfill the following conditions: For entry into 100 level Computer Science, the requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Physics to form the core subjects with credit in any other two relevant science subjects from Biology, Chemistry, ICT, Computer Studies, Agric. In addition, a candidate must have the required number of credits at the O’ level. (b) NCE, with at least a merit in Mathematics and any other science subject. (c) OND, with at least upper credit in Mathematics or Mathematical Sciences.
