About Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU)
The Katsina State House of Assembly on April 08 2009 passed a Law that changed the name of the University from Katsina State University to Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina. The renaming was in honour of the then immediate past State Governor and the then President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’adua. The present permanent site, a land of 1029.33 hectares along Dutsin-Ma Road, Katsina was commissioned on April 09, 2009, a day after the renaming, by His Excellency, Alhaji Umaru Yar’adua, the Late President of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Umaru Musa Yar’adua University is a well established University with good infrastructure and is significantly ICT driven, meeting the objectives for which it was established. The momentum of growth and development of the University achieved from its planning has been significantly sustained. The Government of Katsina State continues to provide necessary funding for the sustenance and for keeping the pace of developmental plans of the University.

The Umaru Musa Yar’adua University logo depicts a shield resting on a base. Inside the shield is an open book and a molecule above it. The molecule symbolizes science and technology, which is the university’s focus for the rapid scientific and technological development of the State.
The open book symbolizes the spirit of enquiry and research, which represents the aspiration of the university to excel in its academic activities. The shield symbolizes the virility and courage of the people of Katsina State, which shall be reflected in the management of the university.
The yellow colour on the logo, which dominates the surface of the shield, symbolizes the Sahel region in which Katsina State is located. The green colour, which covers the edges of the shield, symbolizes agriculture which is the predominant occupation of the people of Katsina State.
The colour white represents the serene environment, which the university hope to provide through the use of information and communication technology. DIRECT ENTRY | Candidates with a minimum of 9 points in IJMB/ HSC/GCE A level/NCE in Hausa and any other Art or Social Science subject.
Candidates with a minimum of Lower Credit pass in Diploma in Hausa from recognized institutions may also be admitted. All candidates must satisfy the UTME requirements. |
