ABOUT Federal University Ndufu-Alike
In the last quarter of the year 2010, the Federal Government of Nigeria in order to grant more access to higher education to those leaving the secondary school system across the land, announced that it would establish more Federal Government owned universities in the country.
In deciding the location of these new universities, it was imperative for the government to ensure equity in the spread of higher educational opportunities across the nation. It was therefore not surprising, that the new institutions had to be located in those states where Federal Government owned universities were presently lacking.
Ebonyi State of Nigeria has not only remained as the only state in the South East Zone of the country that is officially recognised as educationally disadvantaged, but was also the only state in this zone that had no Federal Government-owned university located within the borders of the state.
The Federal University Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is one the new universities that Government eventually established in the first quarter of 2011. The other eight new universities are located in Dutse (Jigawa State), Dutsin-Ma (Katsina State), Kashere (Gombe State), Lokoja (Kogi State), Lafia (Nasarawa State), Otuoke (Bayelsa State), Wukari (Taraba State), and Oye-Ekiti (Ekiti State).
The people of Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area have generously allocated a large parcel of land of about 438 hectares for the establishment of the campus of the new university. The area of the donated land is almost double what is statutorily required by the law for the building a university in Nigeria.
A part of this land presently hosts one of the Model Secondary Schools in the state, the Community Secondary School, Ndufu-Alike. Students of this school are being relocated to another school immediately after their end of year examinations in July 2011 while their school compound will now constitute the take-off point of the new university.
The school compound presently has enough buildings to serve as offices, class rooms, laboratories, and hostels for the in-coming students. Modification of some of the existing buildings and the provision of electricity and running water to the premises are priority projects that are being embarked upon to ensure a smooth take-off of academic activities as soon as possible.
The University prides itself on offering excellent learning resources for students, the latest computing technology and a million-volume library.
Wireless access internet is available throughout all University buildings and student accommodation and many of our computer labs will be open 24/7.

Infrastructural Facilities
The University will provide the necessary infrastructure required for proper academic development and social interaction. This will include Internet access, water, electricity, roads, streets, street lights, etc.
i. Water
The University will sink a number of boreholes on campus and ensure adequate supply and distribution of water including the use of water tankers to ensure that all areas are properly supplied.
ii. Electricity
The University will be linked to the National Grid while generators will be installed to supply light and power when there is an outage. The University will explore the possibility of lighting the streets by solar power.
iii. Telecommunications
An internal telephone network, including a Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX), would be provided to give reasonable coverage to the University to service the Offices and the Residences. The University is also expected to have an Internal Radio-link system, in addition to the Radio-link with the NUC. Facsimile (FAX), and Internet inter-connectivity are to be provided for in the telecommunication plan for the University.
iv. Waste Disposal
Wastes (solid and liquid) will be disposed of in a systematic and orderly manner to ensure safety, good health, environmental friendliness and general well being of the people.
Admission Requirements For FUNAI
The admission requirements for entry into undergraduate academic programmes are stated below:
Admission into the basic studies programme of the University is open to candidates who have five credit passes at the O’Levels
The credit passes shall include English and Mathematics.
Admission Requirement for Undergraduate Programms
Prospective students would need to satisfy the following general requirements before they are offered admission to the Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo.
A. For admission to 100 Level (UMEa), candidates must:
- Obtain five (5) credit passes at SSCE (or equivalent) in relevant subjects at not more than two sittings; and
- An acceptable score in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in relevant subjects.
B. For admission to 200 level (direct entry), candidates should, in addition to five SSCE credit passes as in a (1) above, obtain at least two A’level (or its equivalent) passes in relevant subjects or possess NCE or OND with credit passes, or possess a good first degree in another field as the case may be.
In addition to the above general requirements, prospective students must satisfy faculty/departmental requirements.

FUNAI offers over 50 Bachelor degree courses leading to different qualifications.
Faculty of Agriculture
Faculty of Agriculture started with Department of Agriculture and Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture for take-off. The programs being housed under Department of Agriculture are: Agriculture Economics, Agribusiness, Animal Science, Crop Science, Horticulture, and Soil Science. Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture runs only Fisheries and Aquaculture as a program. Other programs and Departments will be introduced in due course.
Philosophy
The Faculty produces graduates with in-depth academic and practical training in the agricultural discipline and practical agricultural techniques in the university’s integrated commercial or other related farms so as to produce graduates that are sound in their chosen field of specialization while possessing easily identifiable and readily applicable expertise that will encourage self-employment and entrepreneurship in agriculture and related areas. To further broaden and enhance their academic horizon and excellence, the students are to be exposed to courses in social sciences, humanities and managerial skills during their stay in the university.
Objectives of the Faculty
- To train and impart the knowledge and skills of scientific agriculture and related sciences on our students through teaching and research towards achieving self –reliance and employment among our graduates and ensuring food security in the nation.
- Dissemination of our research findings through our out-reach programmes in our community, workshops, conferences and publications.
- Engage in and encourage commercial farming using advanced technologies in our community as well as demonstrate the theoretical aspects of our teaching and research in the farm
- Produce graduates that are relevant to themselves, the industry and society and who can contribute effectively to national development goals in Agriculture
- Being involved in consultancy services to government , individuals, corporate bodies as part of the mandate of the institution and
- Exhibit the entrepreneurial advantages in the study of agriculture through the establishment of an integrated commercial farm for commercial production of agricultural products, teaching and research as well as community service by using same as a demonstration farm for the catchment area farmers.

Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences
The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, FBMS, Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (FUNAI) was one of the three faculties established at the inception of the University on 3rd November, 2011.
The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, FBMS, has three Departments namely, Department of Anatomy, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Department of Physiology. In the meantime the three departments are offering B.Sc. degree programmes in Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry and Physiology respectively.
The Faculty would also serve the Pre-Clinical students when Medicine and Surgery programme is established. Plans have reached advanced stage for the establishment of the College of Medicine and Surgery to be sited close to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHA), Abakaliki.
In the first year of study both the B.Sc. and MBBS students shall receive lectures in courses in general studies as prescribed by the University and courses in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Medical Genetics, and Medical Parasitology in the Faculty of Science and Technology. At the end of the first year which is designed to give the students a basic understanding of scientific concepts of Medicine, students for B.Sc and MBBS Programme would begin the Basic Medical Sciences available in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.

Admission requirement

Established in 2016, the Faculty of Education is one of the newest faculties in the University.
- The Faculty offers a variety of programmes in education based on foundations of excellent scholarship, research and practice-based learning. The inaugural four years’ programmes are as follows: B. (Ed) Mathematics Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Biology Education, BA (Ed) English and Literary Studies, B.Ed. Business Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Physical and Health Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Physics Education and B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry Education.
- Our programmes offer students the opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of education in a national and global context. Each programme presents numerous opportunities to develop a range of transferable skills, such as critical reflection, systematic analysis, communication, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, presentation and writing.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology is the fourth Faculty established in the Federal University Ndfuu-Alike Ikwo, Nigeria.

The detailed course structures and synopses of the various programmes were developed to meet up with global new engineering practices s stipulated by the Nigeria University Commmission and COREN as well as the curricula of our partner Universities such as Rice University, Kago-Shima University, Japan, and the University of Central Lancashire, United Kingdom.
The aim of our University is to develop a world class Faculty of Engineering and Technology with such selected Departments for research and community development, and to develop technical/engineering knowledge for management of the vast mineral resources in the Country especially in Ebonyi State as well as produce research that will support the nation’s economy and its industries.
