The LOGO of any corporate institution worth its name is the manifest symbol of the soul of the institution. It is the cameo representation of the vision, aspiration and hope of the institution.

The symbolism of the LOGO has its focus on the future and dares to hope to endure throughout Time.

This is the pad upon which the LOGO of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria is launched.

THE SYMBOLISM

The symbols of the LOGO of the University tell their story in three media: pictures, colours and text.

Observe that the centre of the LOGO is taken up by an open book – a clear reminder that the primary function of the institution relates to opening the book of knowledge to young eager and creative minds.

Rising from the East is a young sun with its brilliant, yellow rays irradiating upon the open book illuminating the knowledge that the institution aspires to open to its protégé.

Sharing centre-stage with the book are the symbols of the economic heritage of the State that produced this vibrant institution. The symbols of cocoa and kolanuts remind the institution that its central purpose is to use its knowledge to enhance the economic potentials of the State.

These primary symbols are superimposed on gently lapping waves symbolizing humanity and stating that as long as humanity exists, this purpose stands constant, unchangeable.

Represented in a black wavy line is the symbol of bitumen and petroleum – vital aspects of the economy of the State and areas upon which the University must make a credible impact.

Enfolding these primary symbols is a circle of two halves: the top half bearing the name of the University in royal purple while the lower half carries the name of the community that houses the institution – a clear message signifying the symbiotic unity of town and gown in the common agreement that together this highly dignifying purpose will be achieved and achieved in a spirit of love (symbolized by the colour blue) and unity.

Supporting this sphere is a couple of intertwined horsetails symbolizing the cultural heritage of the State. The implication of this is that the mission parameter of the institution includes and is upheld by the mandate to enrich, enhance and showcase the cultural heritage of the State in particular and the Nation’s in general.

Last, but by no means least, is the banner bearing the text that spells out the message of the LOGO in unmistakable terms: FOR LEARNING AND SERVICE. Notice: the text is embedded in a rich-soil brown colour ̩signifying the expectation that this mandate is planted in a rich fertile soil in which it will grow and flourish.

Admission Requirements To Study In AAUA

The following are the admission requirements to study in AAUA.

The candidate must;

have five (5) credit passes in SSCE or its equivalent in not more than two sittings to be eligible.

have credit passes in both English language and Mathematics to study any subject in AAUA.

satisfy the faculty and department JAMB and screening cut off to be considered for admission.

Requirements For Computer Science

Candidates seeking admission into the Department of Computer Science must obtain credits in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, English Language and any other Science subject at SSCE/GCE-O level/NECO Examination at no more than two sittings.

UTME subjects: English Language, Chemistry, Biology / Physics, Mathematics.

B.Sc. DEGREE PROGRAMME IN COMPUTER SCIENCE DURATION: Candidates who enter through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) normally spend 4 years (Minimum), while the Direct Entry candidates spend 3 years (Minimum).

REQUIREMENTS FOR AWARD OF DEGREE

To be eligible for the award of the B.Sc. Honours degree in Computer Science, a candidate must offer and pass a total of 148 credit units, made up of:

FOUNDATION COURSES = 24 UNITS
COMPULSORY COURSES = 104 UNITS
ELECTIVE COURSES = 13 UNITS
GST COURSES = 7 UNITS

Direct Entry candidates are required to satisfactorily complete a minimum of 120 units. A student must register for a minimum of 15 credit units and a maximum of 24 credit units each semester.

REGISTRATION FOR COURSES

(i) Candidates must register for the specified compulsory, required and elective courses in the programme.

(ii) Courses designated as pre – requisites to other courses must be taken with a score of at least 30% obtained there to be eligible to offer the specified follow-up courses.

(iii) The minimum workload is 15 units and the maximum 24 units for each semester. Permission for waiver must be obtained from the HOD subject to Senate approval.

(iv) A student can withdraw from a course without penalty within the time stipulated by Senate, and then only with the approval of the HOD on completion of the “add/delete” form. Any student who withdraws from a course without permission will be deemed to have failed the course.

Requirements For Bio Chemistry

(I) Candidates seeking admission into the Department of Biochemistry must satisfy the UTME, post UTME and the University’s admission requirements i.e Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in not more than two sittings. Any candidate who has satisfied the Adekunle Ajasin University pre-degree science programme is also eligible for admission.

(II) Direct entry students should in addition to satisfying the University requirements as stated in (i) above have principal passes at HSC/GCE ‘A’ level in three of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Candidates with diploma certificates or its equivalent, who passed at UPPER CREDIT level, are also qualified for admission.

Direct entry students should in addition to satisfying the University requirements as stated in (i) above have principal passes at HSC/GCE ‘A’ level in three of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Candidates with diploma certificates or its equivalent, who passed at UPPER CREDIT level, are also qualified for admission.

Requirements For Faculty of Arts

In addition to the general requirements for admission into the University, the Faculty of Arts, students seeking admission into the Department of History and International Studies through UTME must have obtained Credit in History or Government at the G.C.E. (O/Level), NECO or SSCE as well as in two other subjects from either Arts or the Social Sciences. Direct Entry candidates must, in addition to the above, have passed two papers (one of which must be in History or Government) at the G.C.E./(A. Level), or passes at least a Merit pass in ND/NCE/Diploma in International and Strategic Studies of this University or some equivalent qualification recognised by the University in related disciplines.

Requirements for the Award of Degrees

For a student to qualify for the award of B.A. in any of the programmes offered by the Department, he/she must satisfactorily complete the following:

Compulsory courses (i.e. core. Departmental courses that students are expected to pass before graduation);
Required courses (i.e. courses required by the University/Faculty for students to pass before graduation);
Elective courses (i.e. courses within or outside the Faculty, which students can take and pass to obtain the minimum number of units required for graduation).

Examination and Grading System

Every course carries 3 units (i.e. 2 hours of lecture and 1 hour of tutorial per week).
Every course is normally examined at the end of the semester in which it is offered (except His 499: Research Project, which is examined at the end of the second semester).
Students’ progress is assessed through continuous assessment (i.e. by way of tests, written assignments and other appropriate methods) constituting 30% during the semester.
Examination at the end of the semester carries 70%. Thus the totality of every grade in each course is based on 100 marks.
