Introduction

This is to notify Lagos State indigenes in Tertiary Institutions all over the country that application forms for the State’s  Bursary and Award is now available online.

Bursary award was re-introduced in 1984 by the administration of Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande in line with the administration’s general populace outlook. The dwindling nature of the Government’s financial resources and the various projects competing for attention of the administration influenced the decision to replace the then scholarship award with bursary to all State indigenes in tertiary institutions within the country, rather than just a small number of beneficiaries enjoying scholarship prior to the advent of the administration.

The administration and implementation of the award was further enhanced by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The following rates were paid to each category of beneficiaries at that time:

  • Normal undergraduate award N10, 000.00 per session
  • Physically challenged award N20, 000.00 per session
  • Law School award N40, 000.00 per session

In the Year 2007, the present administration ensured that Bursary award rates were increased to meet with present economic realities.

Lagos State Bursary Requirements.

  1. Evidence of indigeneship from either:-
    • An Oba or
    • Local Government Council
  2. Letter of Current Admission.
  3. Student’s Identity Card.
  4. Birth Certificate
  5. Academic Certificates obtained
  6. JAMB result slip
  7. Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA) identification card of the applicant
  8. Photocopy of the payment receipt
  9. Downloaded application form
  10. Any other documentary evidence

BURSARY AWARD TO LAW SCHOOL STUDENTS:

Goodnews to the Law students as this administration has increased Bursary to Law School students by approving the rate of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000. 00) only per bonafide indigene. This is to lighten their financial burden and it is paid once. A sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000) only is also awarded to indigenes of the State studying in Maritime Academy.

How to Apply for Lagos State Bursary.

For students in various tertiary institutions, each applicant is expected to pay and obtain a receipt for One Thousand Naira (N1, 000.00) only for Bursary.

Applicants are expected to first generate their “Bill, with the Bill Number” which will be used to effect payment in the Bank at the Revenue Office of the Lagos State Scholarship Board, 254 Ipaja Road, beside NYSC Orientation Camp Agege.

Each applicant will be issued a scratch card for online registration after payment; it is therefore advised that all applicants should check the back of the scratch card for adequate information on the online registration.

All applicants are expected to submit the duly completed application forms with photocopies of all documents required by the Board at the interview venue, on dates to be announced later.
