The “Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe” (Kavli IPMU) at the University of Tokyo is awarding postdoctoral fellowship program for the year. International applicants are eligible to apply for this fellowship programme.

The Kavli IPMU aims to discover the fundamental laws of nature and to understand the universe by bringing together mathematicians, statisticians, theoretical and experimental physicists, and astronomers.

The Kavli IPMU is the first entity within the University of Tokyo Institutes for Advanced Study (UTIAS). The Kavli IPMU Director is appointed by the Director of UTIAS. The Director has a complete authority of making a wide range of decisions including proposing recruitment of the Principal Investigators to the President and appointing other research staffs and administrative staffs.

The Kavli IPMU Steering Committee (SC), consisting of the Director, Deputy Directors and the Administrative Director and a couple of PIs, serves as the personnel committee for faculty and reports the decisions to the UTIAS Steering Committee.

  • Particle and underground experiments, including Belle II, KamLAND-Zen, SK-Gd at Super-Kamiokande, T2K long-baseline neutrino experiment, and R&D for future large neutrino detectors.
  • Astrophysics and cosmology experiments, including Hyper Suprime-Cam for weak lensing survey and Prime Focus Spectrograph for the dark energy at the Subaru Telescope, LiteBIRD satellite, CMB B-mode polarization measurements, SDSS-IV for a galaxy survey, and applications of radiation imaging to space missions, accelerator technology and nuclear medicine.
  • Scholarship Award: Kavli postdoctoral fellows are for three years and provided with the salary comparable to those at other prestigious institutions. They receive generous travel support and are encouraged to travel internationally, visit other institutions, and attend conferences, up to 3 months every year
