Transylvania University Scholarships

Transylvania University’s scholarship opportunities range from $8,000 to full tuition for academics, leadership and more. Students are automatically eligible for scholarship consideration once they are admitted to the university and fill out an application for financial aid.

Below is a list of available Transylvania University scholarships with their estimate awards.

Premier Scholarships

To be eligible for a Premier Scholarship, the student must be selected as a Premier Scholar and attend the scholarship interview. These awards cannot be combined with merit awards. The available premier awards are:

  • Kenan and Trustee – Awards begin at $23,000 per year

Students eligible for these scholarship awards will be selected based on application materials, academics, essays and an interview. Those chosen to compete for these awards must have applied by Early Action Deadline No. 2, which is Dec. 1, and complete an on-campus interview.

Merit Scholarships

These awards are given based on application materials, ACT scores (or SAT equivalent) and GPA.

  • Presidents – Value of award begins at $19,000 per year and students are required to make a 31 ACT and 4.0 GPA
  • Morrison – Value of award begins at $18,000 per year and students are required to make a 29 ACT and 3.8 GPA
  • Pioneer – Value of award begins at $16,000 per year and students are required to make a 26 ACT and 3.6 GPA.
  • Founders – Value of award begins at $14,000 per year and students are required to make a 24 ACT and 3.4 GPA
  • Crimson – Value of award begins at $8,000 per year and students are required to make a 23 ACT and 3.0 GPA.

Note:  This is the maximum award level for Test-Optional applicants.

General Scholarships

Transylvania offers many scholarships for designated groups of students. Students who wish to be considered for these scholarships must submit their application for admission by February 1.

  • Trailblazers – The value of these scholarships are $5,000 per year and they are awarded to students from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds on the basis of academic success and intellectual engagement, leadership and service experiences.
  • Governor’s Scholars, Governor’s School for the Arts, Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs – This is available to all Kentucky Governor’s scholars and participants in the Governor’s School for the Arts and Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs. Students receive a guaranteed minimum award of $18,000 per year. Students who qualify for more scholarships and grant aid will receive the larger amount.
  • Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship – This is available to students who complete the Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship Program on Transylvania’s campus. Students receive a minimum award of $18,000 per year. This cannot be combined with other academic merit awards.
  • Rogers Scholars – This is available to students who complete the Rogers Scholars Program in Kentucky. Students receive a minimum award of $18,000 per year. This cannot be combined with other academic merit awards.
  • IB Scholarship – This is available to International Baccalaureate Programme participants. They receive scholarships ranging from $8,000/year (Diploma Courses) to $18,000/year (Full Diploma candidates).

Disciples of Christ Scholarships

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Transylvania University have been partners in education since 1865. Their long relationship has resulted in the establishment of several scholarship opportunities. These are available to members of a DOC congregation.
