The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) invites applications from qualified Nigerians to apply for the Undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. scholarships for students in Nigerian Federal Universities.

About PTDF Scholarship

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund AKA PTDF is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources established by law for the purpose of;

Developing and Promoting Petroluem Technology

Creating the human resource needs of the oil and gas industry through research and training of Nigerians.

However, the OSS (Oversea Scholarship Scheme) was formed by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund as a short-term measure to address identified skill gaps pending the outcome of various capacity building efforts being made to enable our domestic universities effectively handle the task of grooming professionals in oil and gas related disciplines.

Therefore, the fund reserves the right to allocate prospective applicants to scholarship institutions and field/programmes targeted at filling those gaps.

Nevertheless, with the very many upgrade programmes and opportunities executed by the fund in many Federal Universities in Nigeria, the emphasis has moved to training Nigerians in the country.

Therefore, only a limited number of candidates will be then be sponsored overseas while the rest remain in Nigeria Universities.

However, to ensure steadfast implementation of this mandate, PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for overseas and in-country(local) MSc. and Ph.D. Scholarships.

General Criteria/Requirements For The Scholarship

    • Academic merit as evidenced by quality of degrees, full academic transcripts and other professional qualifications acquired
    • Relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only)
    • Membership of professional bodies
    • The viability of the study/research plan.

    Requirements

    1. MSc
    1. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
    2. Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
    3. Must be computer literate
    4. Possession of 5 O/level credits including English Language and Mathematics.
    5. Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
    1. PhD
    1. Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
    2. Must be computer literate
    3. A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good second-degree certificate
    4. A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology and mode of data collection
    5. All lecturers must produce a letter from their Vice Chancellor confirming that they are not in receipt of any other scholarships

    Required Documents

    Applicants are advised to scan copies of the following documents and attach to their online application forms:

    1. First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
    2. NYSC discharge certificate
    3. WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results as well as thePIN numbers on the application forms to enable PTDF view the O’level results on the relevant website).
