In this episode, you and I will learn how a newer website can outrank an already established website by using the right Keywords. Broad keywords are the words which one or two keywords in them whereas longtail Keywords start from 3 words and they go up to 7 or even 8 or 9 words.
In this episode, you shall get information about [how to improve google search ranking, how to increase google ranking for free, getting your website to the top of Google, how to rank higher on google, how to rank higher on google 2019, google website ranking, rank a website fast, how to rank article].
Broad keywords bring in high traffic but it also comes with lots of competition. So it’s highly difficult to rank number one for the broad keywords. Even it’s less likely to get into the front page of google search result for a broad keyword. Whereas longtail keyword brings medium to low traffic and at the same time, it comes with a medium to low competition too.
So they are easy to get ranked number one and even in the first week, you will directly enter into their first page of google search. Let’s see an example of broad keywords.
Facebook is a single word broad keyword and when you search for facebook, you obviously get Facebook.com as the first search result. Can you imagine that any other website comes as a first search result for the term facebook?. That’s nearly impossible, right?, This is because the domain authority and the search relevancy for the term “Facebook” with facebook.com is unbeatable by any other website.
However, if you have searched for “OAU Acceptance Fees” which is a longtail keyword, then the first search result you get is from naijeduinfo.com which is a comparatively newer website than ngscholars.net. Therefore, a comparatively newer website targeted this long tail keyword with better content and achieved the first position in a google search.
In an article like this, the keyword relevancy should be very high and the bounce rate should be very low. Before we head to why SEO experts recommend targeting long tail keywords, let’s see the basic types that prevail within the broad and long tail keyword.
Types Of Broad Keywords
Broad keywords can be divided into two main types.
- Navigational
- General
Most of the broad keywords are of the navigational type. For Example, if you want to go to a website such as facebook or Amazon, it’s likely that you type facebook.com directly in the address bar of a browser.
Most of the USERS just search for the term facebook on google and they click the 1st search result to go into the website facebook.com. So they are navigating to facebook.com through the broad keyword Facebook and that’s why these types of keywords have got the name navigational Keywords.
Other than navigation, you have got general broad keywords such as Best Processors or Top Monitors. These are some other broad keywords.
Now let’s look at Long Tail Keywords.
Long Tail Keywords
Long Tail Keywords are the main of three types.
- Informational
- Transactional
- General
Informational Longtail Keywords
An example is “How to Use A Smart Phone”. Here you are searching for information out of a blog or website you are going to visit. So basically you are just searching for information. That’s why they are called informational long tail Keywords.
Transactional Long Tail Keywords
Examples of transactional Keywords include “Buy Graphic Cards Online” or “Buy Led TV Online”
Here you are trying to make a transaction and you want the best advice or the best website which has got the product with the lowest price.
That’s why you are searching with the keyword buy.
General Long Tail Keywords
Example of general Keywords is “E-commerce WordPress Site”. This keyword has 3 words. This is neither an informational or transactional keyword. Whereas if you add to “create” in front of the E-commerce WordPress website, then it becomes an informational long tail keyword because you are trying to acquire an information i.e “How to Create”. So all long tail keywords which start with how to can be categorized as informational and if it has the word “Buy”, then it can be categorized as transactional.
If you have an E-commerce website or an online store that is selling products, then you should target transactional long tail keywords.
If you have a content-based website or blog then you should target informational long tail keywords. Broad Keywords are best suited only for higher authority blogs or content websites. Let me justify my statement with an example. Search for the term “Best Processor”. This consists of 2 Keywords and this is a broad keyboard. You will discover that the first search result is from techradar.com while the second result is from pcgamer.com.
When I analyzed both these websites in MOZ open site explorer, the domain authority is just above 81 for Pcgamer while it’s 91 for TechRadar.
So what can you infer from this?. You will discover that for Broad Keywords, very much competition is prevailing as they get very high traffic. So a newer website or a website with lower Domain Authority (DA) cannot compete for broad Keywords.
If you are just starting out or if you don’t have so many high authority backlinks, then I recommend you to target long tail keywords first. Get the initial traffic which will trigger more Social Shares then you will get backlinks or inbound links from higher authority websites.
Eventually, the domain authority of your website will rise, then you can compete with these higher domain authority websites or broad keywords. Do you know how to do competitor research the right way?
That’s what we will consider in our next episode.
That’s the much we can take on the topic “How Can A New Website Outrank An Already Established Website”.
