The Center for NanoScience (CeNS) is inviting applications for PhD and Postdoc Positions and Short Term Fellowships.

Fellowships are available for highly motivated doctoral and postdoctoral candidates who are interested in multidisciplinary research and want to join our collaborative network of nanoscientists.

The Center for NanoScience (CeNS) was founded in 1998 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich as one of the first nanoscience networks worldwide.

Today, CeNS crosslinks the work of more than 100 senior and junior scientists and 260 PhD and master students.

The CeNS members share their extended interdisciplinary knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and pharmacy to promote progress in nanosciences and nanobiosciences.

Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

  • Applications Deadline: February
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available to study PhD and postdoc programs. Three short-time scholarships are granted for up to 6 months by the SFB1032 “Nanoagents”.

  • Scholarship Award: The scholarships cover a monthly allowance of 1365 EUR. No tuition fees will be charged.

  • Number of Scholarships: Three short-time scholarships are granted for up to 6 months by the SFB1032 “Nanoagents”.

Eligibility for the Scholarship

Eligible Countries: The scholarships are open to non-German applicants only.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

For PhD positions
– holding a Bachelor Degree or equivalent in either the field of physics, chemistry or life sciences
– preparing for a Master’s degree in one of the above-named fields to be completed no later than two months before the start of the project OR hold a master’s degree or equivalent
– excellent grades
– a very good command of the English language
– strong scientific motivation
– high interest in interdisciplinary research

For postdoc positions 
– holding or preparing for a PhD or Dr. rer. nat. in a related subject
– high-quality publications
– strong scientific motivation
– high interest in interdisciplinary research

SFB1032 Short-Term Scholarships

Master’s degree in a relevant subject at the time of project start. The scholarships are open to non-German applicants only. The scholarships cover a monthly allowance of 1365 EUR. No tuition fees will be charged.

English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Application Procedure

How to Apply: All candidates have to apply via the online application tool of the LMU GraduateCenter. Other forms of application will not be accepted.

In your application, you have to select one PhD or postdoc project that you are most interested in. You can also select a second, alternative project. The available projects are listed below on this website.

Letters of recommendation
For your application, two letters of recommendation are required. The online application tool will generate an e-mail request to your referees. They will be asked to follow a link in the e-mail and to fill in the evaluation form online. Please note that recommendation letters have to be submitted by February !
