The University of Tennessee has a 79% acceptance rate for the 2018-19 admissions session. This indicates that 79 students were admitted for every 100 who applied, making UT’s admissions procedure relatively selective.

SAT Scores and Prerequisites

All candidates for UT Knoxville must provide either SAT or ACT results. SAT scores were provided by 23% of accepted students during the 2018-19 admissions cycle. 50% of students accepted to the University of Tennessee scored between 580 and 660 on the evidence-based reading and writing portion, while 25% scored below 580 and 25% scored over 660. 50% of accepted students scored between 570 and 670 on arithmetic, while 25% scored below 570 and 25% scored over 670.

 Requirements

Many schools have a minimum GPA requirement for submitting an application, but that is typically just the basic threshold to avoid immediate rejection. The GPA that truly matters for admission is the one that gives you a realistic chance of getting accepted. To determine this, we look at the average GPA of the school’s current students.

The University of Tennessee, for example, typically uses a weighted GPA out of 4.0 to evaluate applicants, though some schools may use an unweighted GPA. With a GPA of 3.96, you’ll need to be at the top of your class, achieving nearly straight A’s in all your classes, to be competitive with other applicants. It’s essential to take challenging courses, such as AP or IB classes, to demonstrate that you can handle college-level academics.

If you are a junior or senior, there might not be much time to significantly improve your GPA for college applications. If your GPA is around or below the school’s average of 3.96, you can compensate by achieving a higher SAT or ACT score. This will help you compete effectively against other applicants who have higher GPAs than you

ACT scores were provided by 88% of accepted students during the 2020-21 admissions cycle. According to admissions data, most of UT Knoxville’s accepted students score in the top 26% nationwide on the ACT.

In the center, 50% of students admitted to UT Knoxville had an ACT composite score between 24 and 30, with 25% scoring higher and 25% scoring lower. The ACT writing portion is not required at UT Knoxville. Unlike many other colleges, the University of Tennessee considers your greatest sub scores from multiple ACT sittings.

GPA

The middle 50% of the University of Tennessee’s incoming class in 2021 had high school GPAs ranging from 3.0 to 4.0. 25% had a GPA greater than 4.0, while 25% had a GPA less than 3.0. According to these findings, the majority of successful candidates to UT Knoxville had mostly A and B grades.
