MRC LID is a partnership between St George’s, University of London and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
MRC LID brings together two outstanding specialist schools to provide integrated skills training to develop a cohort of biomedical and public health scientists with world-class expertise in areas of strategic importance to UK and global medical research.
Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

– Full fees at the UK/EU rate,
– Annual stipend at the MRC stipend rate (with London weighting of GBP 2,000.00 pa), and
– Annual GBP 5,000.00 research training and support grant, and
– Annual GBP 300.00 travel and conference allowance for the duration of the award.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Potential applicants must meet both the MRC’s academic and residency requirements to be eligible for these studentships.
To be eligible for a full studentship award applicants must
(a) hold, or expect to obtain before September 2019, a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree (as a minimum), and
(b) be a UK or EU citizen, and
(c) have maintained ordinary residence in the UK continuously for the 3 years preceding 1 September
To be eligible for a fees-only studentship award applicants must
(a) hold, or expect to obtain before September 2019, a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree (as a minimum), and
(b) be a UK or EU citizen.
Please note: We are not able to consider applications for this funding from applicants who do not meet the UK/EU fee status requirements.

1. Academic Requirements
Applicants must hold, or expect to obtain, a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree.
Those applying for the 3.5 year PhD Studentships should also preferably hold, or expect to obtain, a relevant Masters, or have a combination of relevant qualifications and experience which demonstrates equivalent ability and attainment. This may include a period of employment or internship in a relevant environment.

- Residency Requirements
The studentship is open to applicants who would be assessed to have UK/EU fee status, and who meet the MRC’s residency requirements. To be eligible for full MRC Studentship award applicants must have been ordinarily resident in the UK throughout the 3-year period immediately preceding the date of the award to qualify for the full award.
Under MRC residency requirements other EU nationals may receive be eligible for an award to cover tuition fees only. Those applying for a fees-only award will be asked to submit a brief statement explaining how they plan to fund their living expenses.

Application Procedure

The deadline for receipt of complete applications for 2019-20 entry is Sunday 13 January 2019. The portal will close to applications at 23:59 (GMT).
