How to Go From College to Career
Recent college graduates face the looming threat of looking for an entry-level job during a volatile economy. However, current college students have the opportunity to load up on the skills that will be most helpful in a post-COVID economy.
These three strategies can help you make the most of your college years to find a successful telecommuting career after school:
1. Career Research: Start by looking at current job listings in your desired field and tracking the trends on which companies are hiring. This can help you identify the skills and qualifications that will be most useful for your work-life after graduation.
2. Upskill and Cross Skill: Even if you’re planning on a technology career, you can set yourself apart from the competition by developing useful auxiliary skills. For example, software developers who have project management skills could have an advantage at leading development teams. Similarly, user experience pros could further their innovation and insight through customer service management training.
3. Stand Out with a Top GPA: As an entry-level candidate, your college GPA will be a key metric for assessing how you will contribute to your future employer. Poor grades can hurt your ability to get a job, and many employers won’t look at your resume if you have less than a 3.0. Conversely, a top GPA could make it easier for you to get an interview.
