Who Can Apply For The Exam (Eligibility)
Principals/Commandants of schools are hereby informed that only candidates in their final year of Senior Secondary School i.e. (SS3) are eligible for registration. For the avoidance of doubt, the SSCE (I) is meant for only school-based candidates in Nigeria and overseas. It is not meant for private candidates. Principals/Commandants of schools and States Ministries of Education should endeavour to enforce the eligibility condition.
June/July NECO Registration Procedure
The following are the registration procedures for Principals/Commandants of schools presenting bona-fide candidates for 20201 June/July SSCE.
The SSCE (I) registration will be both OFFLINE and ONLINE.
Offline Registration
Schools are to install the 2022 SSCE (I) offline application by downloading from the Council’s website: www.neco.gov.ng. The user manual on the step-by-step offline and online registration procedure can also be downloaded from the Council’s website. Schools are to make all entries of their candidates’ bio-data offline and intermittently synchronize online to avoid loss of data.
Ensure that all prospective Candidates are registered offline, such that as they pay, they could be uploaded online progressively. Please note that a candidate is only NECO registered if his/her offline entries are uploaded online to obtain a registration number. Online upload is only possible upon payment of registration fees.
Biometrics Data Capturing
Biometric data capturing is a process by which candidates’ fingerprints (10 fingers) are captured during offline registration. The Biometric application can be downloaded from the Council’s website or through the SSCE Internal Dashboard. It is a vital part of the offline registration because without it, candidates’ data cannot be uploaded online. FUTRONIC (FSBOH) should be used for the data capturing.
Schools are to ensure that candidates crosscheck their data (Name, Picture, Date of Birth, Sex, Subjects) on the preview page during the biometric capturing and can go back to the Offline application to correct any error detected by the candidate(s).
The Council should be notified of any physically challenged candidate(s) whose fingerprints cannot be captured during offline registration process.
Schools should NOTE that:
- Duplication of registration will not be entertained since no two biometric data are the same.
- No person(s)/candidate(s) should be allowed to capture their fingerprints on behalf of the rightful candidate(s) as any candidate whose biometric data does not match the data uploaded during verification exercise will be deemed to be impersonating.
Offline Validation
After successful offline NECO registration, schools are to do the offline bio-data validation before uploading registration data online. Candidates are to check and make all corrections of Name, Picture, Date of Birth, Sex, Subjects etc., before uploading the registration data online.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COUNCIL IS NOT LIABLE FOR REGISTRATION ERRORS. ALL REGISTRATION ERRORS MUST BE CORRECTED DURING THE VALIDATION PROCESS BEFORE UPLOADING THE REGISTRATION ONLINE.
Procedure for Offline Validation
Upon completion of the offline registration, schools are to print the offline photo cards of all the candidates from the offline application and issue to each candidate to confirm that his/her Picture, Name, State) LGA, Date of Birth, Sex and the Subjects he/she wishes to sit for are all correct.
Where errors are discovered, candidates should correct such errors on the photocard and sign in the appropriate column. Where there are no errors, Candidates should just sign the appropriate column. All signed photocards are to be returned to the person doing the registration to enter all corrections in the offline application.
NOTE THAT ALL CORRECTIONS MUST BE DONE OFFLINE AND DUPLICATION OF REGISTRATION WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED.
The Council is not liable f or any registration errors committed by schools during registration and will only entertain non· validation after schools have uploaded their entries online upon payment of fine.
Please note that any school that requests for correction of Name (only error in spelling of Name will be entertained), Picture, Date of Birth, Sex or Subject(s) is deemed to have indulged in “NON-VALIDATION”
The penalty fee for non-validation is Five Thousand Naira (N5,000.00) only per candidate irrespective of the nature of non-validation.
After effecting all corrections, the validation list should be printed and given to candidates to further confirm that all the corrections they made on their photocards (if any) have been duly effected. Where Candidates discover on the Validation List that the error(s) were not effected, the attention of the person doing the registration should be drawn to effect the correction(s). Candidates should append their signatures on the corrected copy of the Validation list against their respective names. The signed offline validation list is one of the documents to be returned to respective NECO State Offices along with other Validation Documents.

How to Pass NECO Examination
1. Understand the structure of the Exam paper
First of all, understand the structure of the Exam paper – is there any marks allocation for a particular topic?
Secondly, if there is marks allocation, is examiner following it? The best thing to do is to review the past five years exam papers.
What is the key topic i.e. examiner’s favorite? Is there any article by examiner in the student magazine? Study that topic and prepare for it, even if you don’t like it!
2. Taking notes
Prepare for exams by way of ‘notes’ which you can recall quickly at the time of taking exam. This will help in two manner. First, when you write, you are in better picture of giving your mind instruction through written letters. Secondly, you can revise from your notes instead of opening text books when exam day is near.
Here is my strategy for taking notes:
Take a paper and turn it in landscape format.
Put three columns in landscape form.
Once done, take synopsis of a chapter in smaller fonts and the language which you can easily understand.
Write bullet points, important concepts and key ideas which you need to remember.
These notes should be used at the time when paper is on head and you need to revise whole subject in two to three hours.
3. No limiting belief please
Remove the limiting belief that you can’t pass.
If you believe you can pass or you believe you cannot pass, you are right.
I have seen students under the impression that examiner is their enemy. Please don’t think so. Pass percentage might be low, but students do pass their exams. So, don’t think that you will be in a failure category ever.
4. Don’t annoy examiner
See for spelling errors and writing style. Writing needs to be legible and understandable. As a teacher to many students, I have noticed that spelling errors and the way students write, at times, is not understandable. Examiner has very less time to check paper. If your paper is examiner friendly, you are going to attract good marks.
5. Time your paper
Here is technique to time your paper: Take total marks and total time. Subtract 10 minutes from the total minutes. Divide the remainder with the marks and you get time per marks
example: If there are 100 marks for a paper and you have 180 minutes. Subtract 10 minutes. This means you have 170 minutes altogether or 1.7 minutes per mark.
make sure that you don’t spend more that 1.7 minutes per mark e.g. if a question is of 10 marks, maximum time you should spend should be 17 minutes.
It happens that students try to focus on one particular question and if they are unable to solve it, they get confused. Don’t panic. Start next question. If student has time, he / she can take up that particular question later on.
Try to allocate 10 minutes at the end of exam to review the paper thoroughly.
6. Remembering / memorizing key ideas and formulae
One of the key ideas to memorize ideas e.g. formulae, is to write them in small charts and hang it in front of your bed.
See those formulae daily before going to bed and rising up.
Use different colours and markers.
Believe me, in my statistics paper, I was recalling the formulae in the exact colours which I wrote on charts.
7. Exam practice
Practice mock exam – be your own examiner.
Take any past paper and solve it as a mock exam.
Solve past paper in the time allocated in exam. Think you are in exam hall and solve the paper accordingly.
Check your paper and give yourself marks.
See how are you performing in mock exam and be sincere to yourself.
That’s the much we can take on the topic “NECO Registration, Exam Date & Latest News”.
