Shell Nigeria Gas Ltd is a fully owned Shell company incorporated in 1998 for the downstream distribution of gas to industries in Nigeria. Our business activities in Nigeria
- The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) is the largest Shell company in Nigeria and produced the country’s first commercial oil exports in 1958. SPDC is the operator of a joint venture (the SPDC JV) between the government-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation – NNPC (55% share), SPDC (30%), Total E&P Nigeria Ltd (10%) and the ENI subsidiary Agip Oil Company Limited (5%). It is focused on onshore and shallow-water oil and gas production in the Niger Delta.
- Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) operates the Bonga field, Nigeria’s first deepwater oil discovery. The Bonga facility has the capacity to produce more than 200,000 barrels per day of oil and 150 MM standard cubic feet of gas per day.
- Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) is the only international oil and gas company to set up a gas distribution company in Nigeria to supply industrial customers.
- Nigeria LNG (NLNG) is a joint venture incorporated in 1989 to produce LNG and natural gas liquids for export. It was Nigeria’s first LNG project. Shell holds a 25.6% share, together with NNPC (49%), Total (15%) and ENI (10.4%).
Shell In Nigeria by numbers
- The SPDC JV’s assets include around 50 producing oil fields, a network of approximately 5,000 kilometers of oil and gas pipelines and flowlines, five gas plants and two major oil export terminals (Bonny and Forcados)
- Bonga was Nigeria’s first oil and gas project in water depths over 1,000 meters. It increased Nigeria’s oil capacity by 10% when it began producing in 2005 and has a production capacity of 200,000 barrels of oil per day and 150 million standard cubic feet of gas per day
- The NLNG plant at Bonny Island has six processing units (trains) with a total processing capacity of 22 million tonnes a year of LNG and up to 5 million tonnes of natural gas liquids (LPG and condensate). NLNG accounts for approximately 7% of the world’s total LNG supply

Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) supplies natural gas to 85 industrial customers and the SPDC JV is the major supplier of gas to Nigeria LNG. SPDC’s Afam VI power plant supplied approximately 18% of the nation’s grid-connected electricity in 2014.
Nigeria depends on the oil and gas industry for approximately 90% of export income and 75% of overall government revenue.
SCiN makes a major contribution to developing the country’s human capital and contracting capacity. 90% of SCiN contracts were awarded to Nigerian companies in 2014.
SCiN pursues a variety of social investment projects, with a particular focus on community and enterprise development, education and health. Nigeria the largest concentration of social investment spending in the Shell Group.

- Brownfield Project Engineer in the Bonga Asset Projects team reporting to the Bonga Asset Projects Portfolio Manager.
- The role is accountable to develop assigned projects from front end design, through detailed design to commissioning and closure. Adhering to Shell HSSE standards and to deliver within budget, schedule and quality requirements

Accountabilities

- Focus on interface management, interface controls, and follow-up.

- The position holder will have overall accountability to plan, organize, develop, lead and execute the electrical and instrumentation construction scope within the Bonga Asset Portfolio Projects within a complex deepwater brownfield environment.
- The position would ensure that all electrical and instrumentation construction activities are executed safely, on schedule, within budget and to the specifications and quality standards defined for the project.
The deliverables for the position include:
- Carry out analyses and calculations to verify that specified electrical and instrument design and performance requirements are satisfied and are in compliance with all applicable codes, standards, rules, and regulations.
- Develop and implement a ‘Work Safely’ initiative with respect to electrical and instrumentation construction offshore on Bonga FPSO
- Conduct constructability reviews and risk assessments for electrical and instrumentation scopes
- Manage the construction electrical and instrumentation interfaces with the design disciplines and also Bonga operations and maintenance teams
- Develop and implement electrical and instrumentation construction execution plans for each project and lead the implementation of offshore Bonga FPSO
- Plan, manage and integrate electrical and instrumentation scopes in order to optimize resources allocations within the brownfield offshore environment
- Manage and drive the achievement of safety, cost, quality and schedule targets for onshore construction and offshore installation of electrical and instrumentation work scopes.
- Provide electrical and instrumentation construction inputs into SIMOPs, HAZOP, HAZID, SAFOP etc and other technical safety activities
- Conduct assurance of electrical and instrumentation construction equipment assurance for compliance to standards/requirements prior to deployment to the construction site.
- Manage Permit To Work process during offshore construction execution of electrical and instrumentation scopes on Bonga FPSO
- Prepare and/or review and sign-off electrical and instrumentation construction and installation work packages
- Initiate and implement changes in electrical and instrumentation work scopes using Shell’s change management process
- Review and implement ComPex requirements at onshore and offshore construction worksites
- Develop and implement electrical and instrumentation construction resource plans and forecasts
Requirements, Qualifications & Experience:
- The position holder should have a minimum 2nd Class Lower degree in engineering and at least 8-15 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry with a minimum of 5yrs as an electrical and instrument construction engineer within an oil and gas offshore environment, preferably deepwater.
- Strong experience in electrical and instrumentation detail design, construction, installation, commissioning, and start-up.
- Experienced in design and implementation of integrated control and shutdown systems and Low Voltage and High Voltage power systems
- Demonstrated skills in electrical and instrumentation design integrity and completeness checks including the review of a bill of materials
- Strong experience in field instrument specifications (Level, Pressure, Flow etc) installations, calibrations, and commissioning
- Experience in brownfield control and electrical system upgrade will be an added advantage
- Strong HSE commitment and demonstrated HSE leadership skills.
- Experience with FPSO and Topsides electrical and instrumentation construction management.
- Demonstrated capability to proactively implement plans and follow through with sustained execution, meeting project milestones.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to work across organizational boundaries.
- Ability to work with and influence multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to deal with substantial uncertainty and multiple, often conflicting, goals and priorities while staying focused on delivery.
