Table of Interests
Today, we shall discuss on the Reasons Why Students Carry Over Courses In The University.
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, carryover means something that existed in one time or place.
When I saw this definition, I was surprised about where we got our own concept from.
If you observed very well, it is completely different from what form what students know it as .
Bringing the concept of carryover into any Nigerian University or tertiary institution gives it a specific meaning.
It simply means FAILURE is involved.
Some Students are usually deflated whenever they discover they had a carry over.
I said in my last post on “what every student should do after failing a course” that having a letter F is not the end of this world.
Your exam results do not define you as a person or predict your future.
Nevertheless, it is important that we pay maximum attention to our academics and prevent carryovers.
This is why you and I will look at the the top reasons why students carry over courses in the university.
This will enable us to avoid them as much as possible.

Lack Of Proper Preparation
I have continuously dealt with this topic.
If you are failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.
It’s as simple as that.
There are no secrets to success.
It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure.
Spectacular achievements is always preceded by spectacular preparation.
I don’t believe in luck, I believe in preparation.
Thorough preparation makes its own luck.
I have talked excessively on how to prepare in the link below.
I recommend you read it thoroughly.

Skipping Lectures
This is one of the top reasons why students carry over courses.
A lot of students will not probably agree with this.
They may have their reasons but I don’t think its enough.
Even if your lecturer teaches “SPOIL”, trust me it is still better to patiently sit in that class till when he is through.
Research has shown that students who don’t skip classes do better than those who do.
If you think you have a photographic and the other graphic kind of memory, then you think you can skip classes, YOU ARE ON A LONG THING.
Mistakes are forgivable if one has the courage to admit them.
Why don’t you use your photographic memory and attend those classes and see how you will perform.
Likewise, You discover you will miss out on the excitements of the class and make reading easier for you.
The truth of the matter is that there are so very many clowns in class.
They ask indeed very funny questions and you can use it to easily remember what has been taught.
Furthermore, being present in class affords you the opportunity to earn extra marks for answering questions.
While still in secondary school or high school as the case maybe, the class appreciates us by clapping for us.
But in the university, most often the lecturers make your getting an A very sure when you answer their questions.
Therefore, I hope you have seen what skipping classes can make you miss right?
Oh my God!!! Did I forget the issue of Attendance Being Compulsory?
Well as the years keep going by, the issue of attendance has become very important.
The evidence that you attended a class is your attendance.
Therefore, some Universities have made it compulsory that if you don’t have up to 70% of the total attendance, NO EXAM.
I bet with you that you don’t want to be in that condition.

Excessive Partying And Outings
It is often said that too much of anything is bad.
Some students are just designed for social life even when they are not studying social works (LOL).
Funny as it may, some students spend most of their time during a semester hanging out with friends.
While this is not bad in some sense, it can cost us a lot when it comes to academics.
This is why I began by saying too much of anything is bad.
As students, it is more beneficial to do everything moderately.
Don’t ever over do anything.
There is always time for anything.
You can hang out with friends more often when school immediately resumes.
As from mid-semester, start saying Hi over the phone alone.
Then as exam approaches, you best friends should be those who can add value to your life and help increase your CGPA.
However, you can go partying after you are totally done with exams.
A word is enough for the wise.

This is one of the top reasons why students carryover courses in the university or fail some courses as the case maybe.
Your health is very important., therefore, it is important you pay maximum attention to it.
It is only during exams that students fall sick more often.
Make sure you treat malaria or typhoid properly when these guys arrive.
Sometimes they come as a result of accumulated stress.
Other times , they come as a result of mosquito bites.
But which ever way, it is advisable to treat yourself and perform optimally health wise before taking exams.
It brings out the best in you and makes reading easy.

Students Don’t Take Advantage Of Past Questions
Truth be told, I used to have this problem.
Although if you are thinking I failed, sorry to burst your bubbles, I didn’t.
I was just part of those in the school of thought that if you prepare well for your exams, you won’t have need for past questions.
But I had to later change my perception about that when I saw top students excelling more with using it.
Past questions give you a sense of direction when studying.
The truth is that past questions helps to build your confidence towards exams.
It is a very important preparation tool that all students should embrace.

You must have heard some students say ” He be like dey dey follow me oh”.

Reasons Why Students Carry Over Courses In The University – Lecturers Victimization
There are some lecturers that just fail students become of negligence on their parts.
You can’t possibly expect me to believe that only 5 persons out of 100 passed a course.
It has happened before that’s why am saying it.
Our students aren’t that dull.
Some lecturers are just so difficult to please.
In fact the marking scheme of some lecturers is HELLFIRE.
They even set what they didn’t teach at times.
At times, stubborn male students are usually at the end of this.
They commit an offense and refuse to apologize, allowing the lecturer to mark your face.
While at times, it’s the female.
Some 79 years old lecturers will just want to sleep with a 17 years old girl.
